A watch is only as precise as its oscillator is regular. Conventional oscillator hairsprings are made of ferromagnetic alloys, leaving them vulnerable to magnetic fields and shocks. It took five years of research at Rolex to create the patented blue Parachrom hairspring. Crafted from a new paramagnetic alloy, this hairspring is unaffected by magnetic fields and remains up to 10 times more precise in the event of shocks. Historically, the blue colour of the hairspring has always been a sign of prestige reserved for only the most accurate timepieces. Today, the Parachrom hairspring equips a wide range of Perpetual movements.
In the beginning, the Oyster bezel fluting had a functional purpose: it served to screw the bezel onto the case to ensure the waterproofness of the watch. Over time the bezel has evolved and it is now friction fitted to the crystal and case. The fluting has become a purely aesthetic element, a Rolex signature feature, a mark of distinction.
